So, like I said before, I have been reading The New Rules of Lifting For Women.  Your probably like why? Your 30 weeks pregnant!!  LOL.  I’m trying to absorb as much as possible before I have this baby and start my program.

Back to the book……  I cannot express enough that this book is awesome!  Anyone who is looking to learn the truth about  weight loss and weights should definitely pick up the book.

I just finished the chapter about nutrition.  I must say, this dude knows his business.  We are all used to hearing the same old tale “if you want to lose a pound a week cut your calories by 500″.  “To lose 2 pounds a week cut 1000 calories out”.  This is what were used to hearing right?

Lou says this is a load of crap.  He advocates that there is no reason to cut cals at all in the beginning.  That’s what causes plateaus.  I have also heard Bob Green preach this in his books.  As well as many bodybuilders, and figure athletes.  Anyway he just goes on to say that you need to implement an exercise program BUT, track your calories without changing them.  Do this for 4 weeks and see where you are, while following his intense training program.  I love this.  (if you wanna know more then buy the book!!)

I have only attempted to lose weight once in my life.  That was after the birth of my daughter.  In Jan 2007 I began by cutting calories to 1500, plus added in cardio everyday.  I quickly lost 38 pounds in 4 months, and eventually got down to eating 1200-1300.  Then I plateaued for six months I did everything I could possibly think of to break that plateau.  Nothing worked.  Nothing.  I eventually gave up and ended up gaining the weight back.  All the while I knew I had made a huge mistake by cutting my calories so low.  Sure I felt good cause I was losing weight, BUT I felt like crap all the time, had no energy, suffered from major migraines.  It was awful.  Plus, I couldn’t eat much more without gaining weight.

After this experience I promised myself that I would never ever again torture myself with starvation to lose weight.  I know your thinking, that’s not starving!!  But c’mon, it is.  I know I could never ever maintain on 1200 calories for the rest of my life.  Not even 1700.  LOL.

Being a big girl at 240 lbs, and standing 5 feet 9 inches I need FOOD!!  Not to mention the fact that I am VERY big boned.

Ok, I have ranted enough.  If you don’t agree, it’s ok.  Im just speaking my mind is all. It’s my blog.

November 4, 2009

It’s already November!!  I cannot believe it.  This is always what happens though.  Once we get to September the time flys.

Things are going great for me.  Just 10 weeks left!!  Initially me and hubby decided to have my tubes tied once we found out we were having this baby. BUT, now we are not so sure.  I mean, I have always wanted to have a big family.  Atleast 4 kids.  Hubby too.  He comes from 5 kids. The only thing that is really stopping me is the whole c-section thing.  I really thought that I had my mind made up but now I’m just not sure ya know.  I think we will just not get em tied that way we have the option later on.

I finally finished my Eat  Clean Diet book by Tosca Reno.  It’s a great book.  I do believe however, that anyone can find out all that info on the net if they searched hard enough. Very informative.

I was totally excited to finally dive in to my New Rules of Lifting For Women!!!

I have read about 8 chapters and love it, love it, love it!!!  Even though it is targeted for women, hubbys will benefit from all the info also.

Anyway, I’m off to do housework.

Shopping Loot

October 24, 2009

So today me and hubby went and did our weekly shopping trip.  Now normally when we go shopping the bill is about $100 for the week, for our family of 2 adults and 2 children.  We have always bought our kids that kiddy food kids love so much.  The fruit roll ups, cookies, fruit chews, oreos, and the list goes on.  Not this time though, me and hubby made a decision to not buy ANY of that crap anymore.  So for snacks we decided on

  • carrots with ranch dip
  • organic apples with peanut butter
  • low fat string cheese
  • organic bananas
  • dried cranberries
  • low-fat yogurt
  • homemade granola bars
  • homemade apple bran muffins
  • sharp cheddar
  • homemade protein bars
  • homemade trail mix
  • natural air popped corn

My kids like all of the above so I think the switch will be fairly easy.

Now back to shopping, I couldn’t believe all the food we got for $40 bucks!

  • 5 lb bag of red potatoes
  • 3 lbs organic apples
  • 2 lbs organic bananas
  • 1 lb baby carrots
  • 2 lbs broccoli
  • 2 red bellpeppers
  • 1 yellow pepper
  • 1 lb d’anjou pears
  • 1 lb roma tomatoes
  • bag of organic greens
  • lettuce
  • alfalfa sprouts
  • 1 lb kiwis
  • lb dried cranberries
  • 3/4  lb organic wild rice
  • 1/2 lb pecans
  • huge can pumpkin puree
  • yoplait delights parfait
  • gogurts
  •  18 pack eggs
  • honey
  • pickled jalapenos (pregnancy thing)
  • bag of corn tostaditos

I did already have chicken at home, and bread and some other things but I bought the essentials.

Now about the organic apples and bananas.  They smell and taste and look unbelievable.  This is my first experience with organic produce.  I am very pleased. I cant believe the difference between organic and non.  It’s something I should have done a long time ago.

This week I have planned the following meals:

grilled chicken with broccoli crowns and wild rice

guajillo steak with pinto beans and corn

egg white omelets stuffed with veggies

chicken skillet with peppers and black beans

grilled chipotle chicken salad

pinto bean tostadas

Gonna go watch a movie with hubby.

So, the other day I bought some books online.  I have wanted these books for over a year now but I never wanted to purchase them.  Kinda was a cheepo back then.  Our budget was very tight and allowed for no wiggle room.  Anyway, I bought these:

 eat cleannew rules of lifting

I have heard rave reviews about the New Rules of Lifting for Women.  Since I am not due for another 2 months, I have more than enough time to really read these books.

Clean Eating

This has been an interest of mine for some time now.  I have always been envious of people who eat clean.  I always thought I would never have enough will power to do it myself.  Plus, hubby hasn’t always been on board either, so I just never tried it.  I have decided that this is what our family needs.  As a mother of 3 I need to do all I can to make sure my kids eat as healthy and nutritious as possible.  I am lucky though, my kids love veggies. So, This family is going 100% clean baby!!

When I was younger, I loved eating veggies but didn’t have them very often.  I thought veggies always came out of a can.  My mother picked up the bad habits of her mother and thats how we were raised.  My mother never bought fresh veggies besides onions and potatoes.  Maybe a tomato here and there.  We never had fresh fruit available to eat, never even saw it.  Nothing was ever homemade, all our meals came out of a box.   We grew up drinking sugar laden KoolAid and pop.  We were never encouraged to drink water either.  When I was about 19 my mother started to buy frozen veggies, so we had a little more in our diet.  She always preached about eating junk but she was always loaded up on pastries and cakes.  Awful.  Now my mother turns her nose up to me when I tell her not to feed my kids candy and pop.  She hates that I have changed.  It’s OK though, not everyone will always be on board with a healthier lifestyle right?!?!

Life is changing!

October 19, 2009

Wow!  It’s been a while.  Some how much of my blog posts got deleted, so it looks like I haven’t blogged since January!  As you all know, I am expecting my third baby. The end is getting closer and closer,  I cannot wait!!  Much has happened since my last post, life changes and my belly getting huge.  Actually me and hubby made a rather big purchase last week.  We bought a Sole S77 treadmill.

102_3104

It cost $1899, but was worth every penny.  Very high quality machine.  Supports up to 400 lbs so it doesnt feel like it’s gonna break under your booty!! LOL.  It can even start out at . 5 mph carrying my big 249 lb butt with not problem.  No hesitation what so ever.

Hubby has decided it’s time to lose those 40 lbs he packed on over the past 3 years.  I am so proud of him.  He is eating way healthier and he is actually counting calories.  This is something he has loathed since I started back in 2007.  Plus, he is exercising everyday on the treadmill and weight training too.  I am just so, so, so happy he has decided to get his health back.

OK, confession time!!

I, on the other hand, allowed myself to slowly bring old habits back in my life.

I started eating fast food more often, buying those 12 packs of Pepsi and let the veggies slip out of our life.  I figured hey I’m pregnant, I deserve it.  But then I started thinking realistically and realized I was making those same excuses we all find ourselves doing.  So, about 3 weeks ago I bought all the veggies our basket would hold and have made it a point to have  veggies at every meal.  Plus I got rid of all the pop in the house and havent bought any since.  Me  and hubby have made a complete turn around on the food front.  It feels good.  Even better since he has taken a real interest in being healthy.

Lastly,

I have been scouring the internet for reviews and blogs about people using the new BodyBugg.  I am going to buy myself one of these during the holidays as a gift to myself for making another baby!! LOL.  If any of you have one or know of someone that is currently using one please tell!! I want all the reviews I can get.
